November 10, 2021
In 2020 Amazon sales jumped 37.6% to $386 billion while Walmart increased sales by 6.7% to $559B. For Amazon this was the fastest year-over-year increase since 2011 reports John Dobosz of Forbes. Walmart is maintaining the highest sales on the Global 2000, but Amazon is projected to surpass Walmart by 2022.
Walmart holds a 20% market share of the grocery business, while Amazon holds a 2% share. During the pandemic, more customers have turned to online services like Instacart, prompting Walmart to offer more shopping options for their online customers.
