Producing Answers in Socratic Seminar
November 3, 2021
In AVID students engage in discussion and dialogue through a Socratic seminar. In the seminar students examine a text and generate questions to produce answers on the topic. The goal of the Socratic seminar is to produce answers to a topic rather than win an argument. Ms. Zaidi will facilitate the seminar with two concentric circles of students: an outer circle and an inner circle. The inner circle analyzes the text through questions and answers, while the outer circle observes the dialogue, takes notes, and makes constructive criticism. Questions used in the seminar include opening questions, guiding questions, and closing questions.Â
