Cultivating Our Own Garden

Ikena Oo (’23), Jake Ma, and Rain Zheng learn how plants are grown at the Rosemead Community Garden

Ikena Oo, Mr. Naka, and Mustang Staff

On Tuesday during Thanksgiving vacation the Garvey Kiwanis Builders Club visited the Cultiva LA Community Garden in Rosemead. The Garden, next to Duff Elementary School and Garvey Park, was accessible to many club members who joined Mr. Naka in a hands-on volunteer project. Students learned about how plants and vegetables are grown and they participated in gardening themselves. Cultiva LA is a registered non-profit that aims to “transform healthy food access and wellness” through local garden projects. This is the start of an ongoing partnership between the Garvey Builders Club and Cultiva LA which will uplift the Rosemead community in a meaningful way.

We must cultivate our own garden”
